48 in America or Brian Bolland in the UK, is known for his precise, clear, uncluttered, and very “realistic” artwork. Nevertheless, it was his colour work that put him at the forefront in France, where he did some provocative covers, one of which was almost banned over there. Aside from his comic book work and illustrations, Sicomoro also teaches and co-founded the Scuola Sperimentale del Fumetto (Experimental School of Comic Art), a comic art school in Rome. We caught up with him recently for the following interview about his artwork and career. Do you remember at what age you began drawing? Very early. I began drawing when I was a child. At home we had paintings done by my grandfather hanging on the walls. He was a diplomat, but he liked painting and he was quite good at it. My mother also drew and painted…so it would’ve been hard not to have been influenced.
