This is the unique original Watercolour painting by Cecil Doughty.

Siddhartha Gautama was a rich young prince born in Nepal who achieved enlightenment and who's teachings are now known as Buddhism.

He is also revered by Hindus as one of the ten avatars of Vishnu. The painting shows the young prince noting the plight of the poor.

Original artwork from a feature on the religion published in Look and Learn issue 76, 29th June 1963.
