23 TOP LEFT AND CENTRE: The only two issues of Captain Kidd published by Fox Features Syndicate in 1949. The main character, Captain Kidd, swings around and runs with his wooden leg. He also bears a passing resemblance to actor Errol Flynn. Not based on the real Captain Kidd pirate at all. LEFT AND TOP RIGHT: The first two issues of Pirates , a comic series published by Hillman that actually tried to tell stories of “real” pirates, and not fictional ones. It began in 1950 and was sold in England as well, being the first actual pirates comic book in America. The artwork is more than adequate.
