76 tasks that would have been carried out by other hands in days of yore. It will be fascinating to see what next is in the works. For the moment, Sean is happy to have the satisfaction of working on the projects that he and Ed generate, affording him a degree of creative control which would have been well beyond the reach of the great artists that inspired him as a six year old leafing through the pages of UK Marvel reprints. The thought that he is inspiring a new generation of comic creatives counteracts the occasional bout of creative angst. As he says, “Sometimes I sit there thinking perhaps I should have been a proper artist, I’ve wasted my life. Then I think of the stuff that did inspire me and I think perhaps I haven’t wasted my life. Well, today I think I haven’t wasted my life—tomorrow it might be different!” ● ● Sean’s work can be found at: http://seanphillips.co.uk and his blog gives added insight into his work and process: http://theartofseanphillips.blogspot.com/ © Basement Gang, Inc. 2020 ABOVE: Lauren Bacall from th e Femme Fatale series of prints.
