20 BB: Dave and I spent two years drawing upwards of 300 pages each of Powerman , through Bardon, distributed in Nigeria. Carlos Esquerra too. One day – and I’m a bit vague about this – Barry called Dave, Carlos and me into his room and showed us early prelims – artwork – for 2000AD . My hero JesÚs Blasco would be in the first issue drawing “Invasion” I think. He wanted Dave and Carlos to jump in with 2000AD issue 1 but he wanted me to continue with Powerman on a monthly rather than the previous bi-monthly basis. That was okay by me. Dynamic drawing, gutsy use of solid blacks and punchy layouts combined with the artist's innate feel for graphic storytelling provided the commissioning editors at 2000AD with all the evidence they needed that here was a artist more than capable of delivering comic art which would build a truly committed and loyal readership.
