66 ducing countless illustrations for Martin Goodman’s Management Magazines, working on such ‘sweat magazine’ titles as Action for Men , Complete Man , For Men Only , Male , Man’s World and Stag . This work was accomplished throughout the 1950s and 1960s, where Norem pro‐ duced not only fully painted covers, but interior black-and-white work as well (also rendered in gouaches). As well as the men’s magazines, Norem also worked for Reader’s Di‐ gest , Field and Stream , Ski , Real West and Discover . By the time the sweat magazines were running out of steam, Norem was lucky enough to find work through his old connection at Martin Goodman’s Magazine Management, which had since evolved into Mar‐ vel Comics, and was run by Goodman’s nephew Stanley Lieber (better known as Stan Lee). It was Norem’s talent illustrating sweat-soaked men fending off nymphomaniac women that made him a natural for The Savage Sword of Conan black-and-white comic magazine Marvel was publishing.
