14 Aside fromhis cartoons appearing in the NewYorker , Addams also created the one-panel gag syndicated strip Out of this World that ran in 1956. Other of his cartoons also appeared in Collier’s and later in TV Guide . Films like ‘The Old Dark House’ (1963) and ‘Murder by Death’ (1976) would feature title sequences designed by him. The Addams Family TV series began when Addams was approached by producer David Levy about creating a programme based on his cartoon family of kooky misfits. All Addams had to do was come up with names for the characters and some further characteristics that the actors portraying them could use. The series would feature real people as opposed to being an animated cartoon. It ran for two seasons between the years 1964 to 1966. Unfortunately, at the same time there ran another similar series known as The Munsters , a comedy programme also featuring a whacky family of monsters that proved even more popular than the Addams Family .
