86 relatively late atWarren—as opposed to his other Spanish colleagues who had been there since the early ’70s— Ortiz would become the most prolific artist Warren ever commissioned. Although his artwork sometimes bore the signs of being rushed (Ortiz claiming he occasionally inked directly without any previous pencil drawings), he, nevertheless, did receive an Award from Warren in 1974 for ‘Best All Around Artist’. It is also noteworthy that as he worked for Warren, usually appearing in every issue they published, he was simultaneously working for the European market on strips such as Tarzan , the martial arts series The Crow ABOVE: Fairy Gifts , pen and ink and watercolour (1968), possibly done for Once Upon a Time . CENTRE: Fairy Child , gouache on board, illustration done in the style of Water Babies for Once Upon a Time issue No. 55.
