34 Photo courtesy of Heritage Auctions (HA.com) In any given issue of MAD , Drucker might easily draw a hundred distinctive faces, depositing them effortlessly in crowd scenes, or in a picture frame in the background, or even placing themon a passing horse or dog. He might have been forgiven for taking shortcuts or adopting a more sparse approach to his assignments but instead he liberally dispensed his abundant talents. Thinking back over his long career, he identified one unifying theme: “It’s all observation. That’s really what it’s all about.” ● We are delighted to report that Mort Drucker has been recently elected to the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame. ● We would like to thank Mort Drucker and his family, as well as Heritage Auctions ( HA.com ) for providing much invaluable assistance with compiling this feature. Plus a big thank you to David Apatoff for creating this long overdue retrospective.
