Andy’s paintings also achieve something that you rarely see: they aren’t still portraits based on models posing for him; they primarily tell a story and, as mentioned earlier, convey a sense of action and movement that draws the attention of the viewer to his carefully crafted ABOVE: The Cheyenne-Pawnee war of 1852 depicts the furious fight between these two tribes, when the Cheyenne attacked the Pawnees whose chief Alights-on-the-cloud was also known as “Iron Shirt” from the Spanish suit of armor he wore.
