The new version is the creation of Mort Bailey a very sharp local operator who wants to drive the Freemans off their ranch and is using the new Wild Bunch to do it. Led by a killer called The Preacher the gang all wear rubber face masks of the original Wild Bunch both for disguise and to create an element of confusion. WILHELM STORY 7: “TOP TRAITOR” STRIP 814 Alias used by Willie while he is pretending to be Waldedmar Petrovic’s nephew and staying with the family in Storgen in order to try to rescue Sir Gerald Tarrant from the Graf von Schuyler. WINSTON STORY 41: "YELLOWSTONE BOOTY": STRIP 4623 Together with Walter he is employed by Mr. Hogan to dig up the Aztec treasure from under the roots of a giant redwood tree where it is now buried. When most of the treasure has been dug up Hogan sends him to the Ranger post twelve miles away to telephone for a truck with which to remove the loot and tells him to be back by nightfall. He only gets a few hundred yards because he runs into Modesty who knocks him out and ties him to a tree, making sure he can play no further part in the proceedings. WIREMU STORY 83 : “THE MAORI CONTRACT” STRIP 8864 A Maori warrior and one of the crew of the hundred man war canoe carved by Jason Nash. He comes with Koro to take an early look at the canoe and meets Sir Gerald Tarrant. STORY 87: “FRASER’S STORY”: STRIP 9224A Advised by her boss that he will not be bringing in a temporary replacement while his assistant Fraser is absent and he is sure that they can cope. When Willie bursts in to tell her the office is being bugged she interrupts Tarrant’s meeting with Maude Tiller to warn him. STORY 89: “THE SPECIAL ORDERS” STRIP 9457 Not specifically named or referred to but drawn in Story 87 and is in Sir Gerald Tarrant’s office bringing him a cup of tea while he is on the telephone to Modesty and offering the services of the Department’s man in Bangkok. WHITNEY, Countess of STORY 81: “THE ARISTO” TEXT ONLY STRIP 8625 False name adopted by Modesty when the “Porto Alegre” is captured by the pirate Guy de Rafford in order to convince him that she and her “sister”, the pregnant Joaquina Camacho are worth more to him for ransom, alive and undamaged than they would be if given over to his crew for sport or sold into prostitution. WHITNEY, the Earl of STORY 81: “THE ARISTO” TEXT ONLY STRIP 8626 Imaginary husband of the equally imaginary Countess. Recently inherited the title and the fifteen million pounds that went with it. Looks good bet for a nice ransom. WHITRAM, Lord STORY 94: “THE KILLING GAME”: STRIP 10010 English member of the select group of big game hunters assembled by Sebastian Kromm for the hunts on his private estate in New Guinea. When offered the opportunity of a man and woman hunt he is initially sceptical and uneasy about hunting a woman. While still not totally happy tracking Modesty, his under estimation of his adversary has given him a false sense of security. He receives a disabling arrow wound in the arm from a bush which turns out to be Modesty. Expecting to be finished off he congratulates her on her archery and camouflage. She treats his wound and sets him free, bootless, to find his own way home. He admits to being shamed by her generous behaviour.
