STORY 88: “TRIBUTE OF THE PHAROAH”: STRIP 9338 When Modesty has a nightmare about her childhood with Lob at the time they rested in the tomb of Amun she is woken out of it by Willie at three o’clock in the morning. She makes them both a nice cup of tea and tells Willie all about it. Sporting an extremely ornate dressing gown he reminds Modesty that if she and Willie wish to have tea in the middle of the night she should ring for him as it is his responsibility to serve nocturnal food or beverages. She tells him not to be pompous and offers him a cup of tea, which he accepts – with one lump of sugar. . STORY 89: “THE SPECIAL ORDERS”: STRIP 9446 Keeps a special radio watch when Modesty and Willie fly out to Bangkok to look in to what initially seems to have been the accidental drowning of Samantha Brown. He rigs himself a pick up speaker in the kitchen and so is on hand when Sam gets into the radio cabin on the Yang Shen and use its radio to call London. He first gets the important thing, her location, and is then able to patch her all the way through to Bangkok to speak direct to Modesty so that she can give her a full report. of her situation. Peremptorily told to stop, he explains that it is at some point along this route that Modesty can currently be found. STORY 82: “RIPPER JAX”: STRIP 8707 When the psychometric bookseller Mr. Haley telephones the penthouse to ask for Modesty’s help he rings her at “The Treadmill” where she is working out in the gym with Willie. Told to collect Haley at noon, he brings him to the penthouse and serves cold drinks on the terrace while he explains his problem to Modesty and Willie. Is later a little bit puzzled to find himself sitting down receiving card sharping lessons from Willie and watching Modesty prepare dinner. Told by Modesty that she and Willie like to do things while they think. He must be the same as it is while he is concentrating on the cards that he helps solve the riddle of the two million pounds hi-jacked by Sandy Luff. STORY 86: “THE MURDER FRAME”: STRIP 9132 Drives the Rolls. Passes the call from Inspector Brook to Modesty when he telephones to warn her that the police are after Willie for the murder of Sir Arthur Brockley. Lends Willie his car and arranges for him to hide out with Maude Tiller just before the police arrive to arrest him. When a taxi she did not order turns up to collect her he goes on to the roof with binoculars to watch her back and checks to ensure she has her mobile phone should he need to call her. With Willie he puts on an awful mask for the kidnap of Leo Palmer and adopts an outrageous accent and uses some terrible ham dialog to con Palmer into confessing to his part in the framing of Willie for Sir Arthur Brockley’s murder.
