Directs Sir Gerald Tarrant to the roof garden when he calls to see if there is any way he can help. STORY 77: “BLACK QUEEN’S PAWN”: STRIP 8191 When Willie arrives at the penthouse on his return from a visit to Thailand he tells him Modesty has gone to Madagascar with their friend Greg Lawton in search of an egg. Goes on to give him a short informative review of the now extinct Aepyornis, a bird that was ten feet tall and is thought to have weighed half a ton, and of its eggs, which were at least a foot long and weighed twenty pounds. He anticipates Willie’s request to get in on the egg caper and when Willie asks, he is able to tell him that he has already booked his flight to Madagascar and arranged for a vehicle to be waiting for him when he arrives. He is more than a little bit smug when his forward thinking proves accurate. STORY 78: “THE GRIM JOKER”: STRIP 8313 Takes the call from Sir Gerald Tarrant and warns Modesty that her caller sounds displeased. Pilots the helicopter to take Modesty and Willie to the island of Moggairne and he helps unload the supplies. He reports that there is water for twenty days and hopes that this will be sufficient. When they get back to London having dealt with The Grim Joker he announces calls, first from Inspector Brook, followed shortly thereafter by Sir Gerald Tarrant both of whom want to know what really happened. 188 Drawn by Romero Strip 8198 17 May, 1993 Drawn by Romero Strip 8313 28th October, 1993 WENG (continued) STORY 69: “LADY IN THE DARK”: STRIP 7428 He looks after Professor Stephen Collier, who is fretting in bed with a bad back, while his wife Dinah is with Modesty and Willie having an adventure at Castle Edlitz in Austria. He plays chess with him and as he is a much better player, offers to start with a handicap. Takes the call from Dinah and hands her over to Steve so that she can tell him all is well and that he can now relax. STORY 70: “FIONA” TEXT ONLY STRIP 7484A Phoned by Willie from Chittagong and instructed to send the list of medial items provided by David Latham to the hospital in Tanarachi in Bangladesh. STORY 73: “THE YOUNG MISTRESS”: STRIP 7759A When Willie arrives unexpectedly in the early hours of a Sunday morning he tells him that Dr. Pennyfeather has been called out to Bruce Lacey’s Mount Galleries and Modesty felt it wise to go with him. Serves breakfast when they return from the gallery with Marian Hall after their encounter with Lacey. Serves tea to Modesty and John Dall before she swaps his fake painting for the original. Delivers the photo of Marian looking terrified that Lacey uses to entrap Modesty. Later drives the power boat that tows Willie, first on water skis and then on to a parachute to enable him to get aboard Lacey's yacht. Holds off until he gets a signal from the yacht to move in but when he does so he accidentally runs over Lacey in the water and kills him. STORY 75: “OUR FRIEND MAUDE”: STRIP 7970 While serving lunch to Modesty and Sir Gerald Tarrant he takes a telephone call from Willie in Paris who reports to Modesty that last night he saw Maude Tiller at the high class thieves kitchen “Le Gant Noir” with a man he did not recognise and he is worried. Tarrant confirms she is on leave and he thought she had gone to Switzerland.
