Asked to hide Willie in her Chelsea flat because the police are trying to arrest him for the murder of Sir Arthur Brockley she has no hesitation about doing so and agrees at once. It is important that he remains free to be able to prove his innocence. She has to go to Paris on a job and leave Willie in her flat but before she goes she provides him with both an effective disguise and the transport to go with it. STORY 87: “FRASER’S STORY”: STRIP 9220 Willie has spent the night with her at her Chelsea flat and wakes her up in the morning with a nice cup of tea and a registered letter that has just been delivered. It is from Jack Fraser, Sir Gerald Tarrant’s assistant. All it contains is a sealed envelope with a note asking her please to deliver it to Tarrant, which she does. TIM (1) STORY 44: “BRETHREN OF BLAISE”: STRIP 4866 One of the guests at the Benildon Hall Christmas party that is attended by Modesty and Willie. He acts as Modesty’s horse in the jousting contest when the proceedings have reached the crazy game stage. Despite her warnings they still all end up on the floor. TIM (2) STORY 59: “KALI’S DISCIPLES”: STRIP 6380 One of the English members of Kali’s Disciples. Ordered by Major Sangster to post ten of the men in pairs along the lower slopes of the mountain as he wants to intercept Modesty and Willie before they can reach the crest of Annamanvi and Tagore’s shrine. When the disciples come to the final battle he is captured when the helicopter full of armed police led by Inspector Chatterji arrives. 171 T H E M O D E S T Y B L A I S E C O M P A N I TOKUSA STORY 18: “THE WAR-LORDS OF PHOENIX”: STRIP 2129 One of the Phoenix warriors in Willie’s unarmed combat training class. When he gets his lessons wrong Willie stops the class and tries to explain what he should do using snooker as his analogy. He and the rest of the class are then given a valuable practical demonstration without being able to understand any of it. TOM (1) STORY 61: “BUTCH CASSIDY RIDES AGAIN”: STRIP 6534 Member of the gang led by The Preacher which is posing as Butch Cassidy’s Wild Bunch. Sprays mace on Willie when he catches one of the gang after Matt Parker has been shot. Is lucky to be carrying binoculars when he spots Modesty and Willie bathing but has the misfortune of being one of the three men chosen to run them off the Freeman ranch. Dealt with by Modesty in one of her playfully vigorous moods. TOM (2) STORY 62: “MILLION DOLLAR GAME”: STRIP 6662 One of Scoular’s poaching party. No suitable drawing. TOMKINS STORY 48: “THE SCARLET MAIDEN”: STRIP 5282 Ex-soldier now butler to Major Redmont (Retired). Sent off to investigate the state of the treasure hunt he dons camouflage to get close enough to confirm that the treasure has been found. The Major sends him to hire mercenaries to see off the treasure hunters. He foolishly asks Dimples Calhoun to do it. When his mistake is made clear to them both they join Modesty and Willie in turning the tables on Calhoun. TONY STORY 32: “THE RELUCTANT CHAPERON”: STRIP 3647 The Manager of the nightclub in Malta where “Aunt” Modesty has taken her young charge Jane Lamont for evening entertainment. She asks him please to keep an eye on Jane for her while she telephones Willie for help. She does not trust the Maltese boys and thinks they are great opportunists.
