When the fighting started between the army and the rebels she brought some of the older girls into a small convent in the hills. It was raided by the bandit El Toro, she was wounded and left to die. Found and looked after by Colonel Spooner but as her wound is in her “upper leg” he was embarrassed about treating it. Modesty deals with it , TERRINGO, Mario STORY 79: “GUIDO THE JINX”: STRIP 8404 Film director and friend of Alan Gurney. Making a stone age epic on location in the remote area between Samarkand and the Caspian Sea. When his stunt team are injured and Modesty and Willie turn up he accepts their offer to do a stunt for him. He is very upset when, due to Guido, it goes wrong and it appears that Modesty and Willie have been killed. TERRY STORY 74: “IVORY DANCER” STRIP 7859 One of the boys in the martial arts class given by Willie at an east end of London youth club. Throws Samantha Brown only because, unusually for her, she is not concentrating. TETI, Colonel STORY 88: “TRIBUTE OF THE PHAROAH” TEXT ONLY STRIP 9426 Sudanese soldier, member of the Sudan Archaeological Society and friend of Miss Prendergast. At her request he sends Captain Kafur and his men to investigate the strange goings-on at Taharqa’s tomb. THERON STORY 56 “PLATO’S REPUBLIC” STRIP 6084A One of the ex-Network men helping Willie in the rescue from Salamander Four of Modesty and Phil and Melinda Krolli. Takes part in the fake “beating up” of Willie. His old Network friend Georgios thinks he has got fat. THUI, Inspector STORY 4: “MISTER SUN”: STRIP 441 Saigon Policeman introduced to Modesty by Tex Naylor after she has rescued Weng from Sun’s men. He is most obliging when she tells him that one of the men is dead as he considers it to be a lasting deterrent to drug dealing. Hopes that interrogation may lead to some further arrests. TIBOR STORY 60: “THE DOUBLE AGENT” STRIP 6449A Grizzly bear used to lure Modesty into the trap in the specially set up barn in the byzantine plot by Hakil to assassinate Sir Gerald Tarrant and put the blame on Modesty. TILLER, Maude One of Sir Gerald Tarrant’s agents. Introduced in 1971 in the strip story “The Puppet Master” she appeared in a second story before making her debut in a novel in “Last Day in Limbo” in 1976. A regular part of the world of Modesty and Willie. The running joke is the inability of her and Willie to make it to the same bed at the same time without something going seriously wrong. STORY 23: “THE PUPPET MASTER”: STRIP 2637 First meets Willie when he is acting as an instructor at the training establishment run by Sir Gerald Tarrant’s department. She is present when Tarrant breaks the news to him of Modesty’s fatal accident and is sent with him to watch and learn and provide comfort and support during his underworld enquiries. When he gets a lead taking him to Capri he leaves her behind but she is sure that it is a trap and bullies Tarrant into following him with Vinezzi. Just watching and helping Modesty and Willie round up the gang teaches her some valuable lessons in how to deal with villains.
