After Brosni’s assassin Skedi murders Roberto Abril, Modesty’s friend, he offers to help if she wants to go after him. When Modesty goes to formally identify Skedi in his own country so that he can be tried for the murder, he keeps the Chargé d’Affaires, John Kerr, fully informed. Later, when he calls on Modesty after her return he is allowed to share the joke that the new Head of State, Vasov, whose life she saved when she foiled Brosni’s coup, has awarded her The Supreme Order of the Workers’ Heroine, First Class! STORY 39: “IDAHO GEORGE”: STRIP 4360 Modesty and Willie are his guests at a government function held to entertain a very important Arab visitor. He is obliged to them for being able to speak to his guest in his own language. STORY 40: “THE GOLDEN FROG”: STRIP 4471 He calls on Modesty and is asked to stay for breakfast. He initially refuses but, on examining the fare, changes his mind. He has come to warn her that Yoon Chang, one of his former agents, might now be a double agent and that any message delivered by him could be suspect. His view is based on the de-briefing that his assistant, Jack Fraser, has conducted. Modesty tells him Chang has brought her a request from Saragam, her old martial arts teacher. He wants her to come to Cambodia and rescue Fain, his granddaughter. They all think it is a trap but Modesty and Willie will go anyway. TARRANT, Sir Gerald (continued) STORY 42: “GREEN COBRA”: STRIP 4655 He is staying with Modesty at her country cottage when a very nearly successful attempt is made to assassinate her. When he learns that his assistant Jack Fraser has disappeared he believes it could be an operation by Salamander Four. He urges Modesty and Willie to search for him. When they bring him home he invites Modesty to dine at his club. She is able to warn Sir Angus McBeal, a fellow member and also a director of Salamander Four, that if there are any comebacks she will kill him. STORY 43: “EVE AND ADAM” TEXT ONLY STRIP 4740 Told Dan Galt that the best male/female couple to advise him on survival were Modesty Blaise and Willie Garvin, which is why they end up in Paradise Valley. STORY 45: “DOSSIER ON PLUTO”: STRIP 4933 On a game fishing holiday with Willie in Jamaica when Modesty calls to ask for help to deal with the trouble Steve Taylor is having at his dolphin research establishment in Mexico with Gaspar and Squire Maitland. He is able to provides some useful background information on both. Helps to wreck Maitland and most of the crew on rocks while Modesty and Willie are sinking Gaspar’s ship. Enjoys watching the release of the dolphins Gaspar had captured and thoroughly relishes his involvement. STORY 47: “GARVIN’S TRAVELS”: STRIP 5134 While he is entertaining Modesty at the ballet, Jack Fraser, his assistant interrupts with an urgent request from the C.I.A. To comply would mean activating Maude Tiller who has just started a long anticipated month’s holiday on Taupita with Willie. Much against his better judgement he is put under great pressure by Modesty to let her do the job rather than spoil Maude’s holiday. He concedes.
