His memory improves at once, allowing him to recall that an Anglo-Thai lady by the name of Rosie Ling does provide females to special order and that she collects them on a ship called the “Yang Shan”. Modesty thanks him and tells him to forget that they have spoken. He breathes again. SMITHSON, Mr. STORY 47 “GARVIN’S TRAVELS” STRIP 5226 U.S. Envoy and their C.I.A. contact on the island of Taupita. Modesty delivers Dr. Yago and Dr. Vole to him when they express the desire to defect to the U.S.A. SMITTY STORY 30: “HIGHLAND WITCH” STRIP 3433 One of the Sister Binks gang guarding Stuart Wallace. Takes the feet when Peggy Western is thrown into the river above Coggie’s Hole to drown. Asks if Sister Binks wants to put any weights on Peggy before she goes in. As her death has to look accidental he gets a sharp reprimand to encourage him to think before speaking. SMUDGER STORY 68: “THE BIG MOLE” STRIP 7329 In charge of the Roundhead section of the S.A.S. assault team attempting to rescue the nurses held hostage by The Paladins. Although he is not specifically identified it is very probable that he is the soldier encouraging Willie in his task of getting into the nurses home by using his pike as a vaulting pole. SMYTHE, Lady Letitia aka Granny Smythe STORY 93: “THE LAST ARISTOCRAT”: STRIP 9860 Impoverished daughter of a noble father who gambled away the family estates. Turned to crime and ran a string of brothels in North Africa. A failed attempt to remove Modesty and her senior lieutenants from the scene led to her being told by Modesty to get out of North Africa, which she wisely did. She ran rackets all around the Mediterranean. Now negotiating the sale of a briefcase sized germ warfare bomb to a group of terrorist for fifteen million dollars, after which she can buy back the family estates and retire. Modesty and Willie intervene and the deal goes wrong so her butler carries out her last wishes. SMYTHE, Count Orlando STORY 51: “THE BALLOONATIC” STRIP 5542 An Anglo-Italian nobleman he is head of an international terrorist information exchange centre located in his villa south of Rome. Uses his Society for the Preservation of Ancient Customs as its cover. Kills Pietro Carli, a government agent, in a very one sided rapier duel but his over confidence is his undoing when he faces Modesty. SNOUT THE SCOUT STORY 39: “IDAHO GEORGE”: STRIP 4371 Member of the gang run by Anastasia Bone. Is guarding Modesty when George asks to have her dead body removed from their cell. Knocked out by one of Willie’s clubs, he must be presumed to have been rounded up with the rest of the gang by Inspector Brook. SNOWY STORY 71: “WALK-ABOUT”: STRIP 7631 Heavy employed by Four Finger Fitch to help him murder Modesty and Willie for Martin Lang. During an underwater fight his shot at Modesty hits and kills Fitch.
