E X P A N D E D E D I T I O N PHILLIPE STORY 25 “THE BLUEBEARD AFFAIR” STRIP 2859 A fencing master at a Salle d’armes on the Riviera and old friend and instructor of Modesty who he considers to be his best pupil. Baron Rath also attends his Salle and is a master of the épée. As a favour to Modesty he agrees to try to arrange for the Baron to fence with her and also to introduce her as a rich and bashful novice. He cleverly succeeds in doing so and sets in motion Modesty’s plan to gain access to the Baron’s villa and to his wife. PIENAAR (1) STORY 63: “THE VAMPIRE OF MALVESCU” STRIP 6798 One of the five original members of Europe’s Fist, an extremist group that plans to meet terror with terror by tit for tat reprisals against Arab states – “ a death for a death, a plane load of deaths for a plane load of deaths ”. When the group decides it must destroy Modesty, Willie and Braun in order to preserve its credibility he is teamed with Laroche. They find and tranquilise Hilde Braun but are not quite quick enough to do the same for Willie before he is able to make them both pay the ultimate price. PIENAAR (2) STORY 94: “THE KILLING GAME”: STRIP 10010 A South African and a new member of Sebastian Kromm’s select group of big game hunters invited to hunt at his private estate in New Guinea. He was a friend of the ivory poacher Scoular, and feels very positive about the opportunity to hunt Modesty and Willie. Although a good and experienced big game hunter he is not used to prey that can think more quickly than him, duck, hit back and throw things that can kill him. When trying to hunt Willie this lack of specific experience is about to cost him his life. PIERRE STORY 25: “THE BLUEBEARD AFFAIR”: TRIP 2851 One of Baron Rath’s men. Seems to be a combination of servant and bodyguard. He warns the Baron of the break in by Willie and joins in the running battle against him and Modesty through the villa. Plays a deadly game of hide and seek with Willie and tries to shoot him but ends up with a knife in his chest for his trouble. PINKY STORY 48 “THE SCARLET MAIDEN” STRIP 5299 Member of the Dimples Calhoun gang. During the fight on the beach he gets the drop on Lisa forcing Modesty and Willie to surrender to Calhoun. High on drugs he is put in charge of Lisa but is dispossessed by a spanner thrown by Willie. PIRA STORY 89: “THE SPECIAL ORDERS”: STRIP 9430 One of Rosie Ling’s best negotiators in the sale of the girls abducted by her to specific requests by her clients. Because she is a woman and younger than him he does not give her the respect she deserves. He also makes the mistake of skimming from the money he has received for the girls Ling has provided. Pays very dearly for both his greed and his attitudes. PHILBY, Kim STORY 7: “TOP TRAITOR” TEXT ONLY STRIP 753 Double agent quoted by Jack Fraser by way of example when discussing with Modesty and Willie the possibility that Sir Gerald Tarrant may have defected. The other examples he provided were Otto John and Bigorre.
