When he goes too far she is “rescued” by Gus, a.k.a. Howard A. Keyes, who is also part of Tarrant’s plot “THE DARK ANGELS” (MANUSCRIPT PRESS) P 8 The same character as in the short story. One of Sir Gerald Tarrant’s men used to get Modesty involved in sorting out The Happy Hunting Ground Funeral Agency. Although he is not specifically named in the illustrated story it is possible to identify him by his dialogue in the two versions. Like his colleague, Adrian, he obviously accepts that being beaten up by Modesty is just simply part of the job. TARRANT, Sir Gerald Head of a discreet Government Department concerned with espionage and counter espionage. Overlaps the political, industrial and criminal. He controls a network of agents around the world and has access to a further pool of agents for special assignments. Controls the training establishment in Sussex which operates under the guise of a Statistical Research Establishment. His initial responsibilty is to a Government Minister but also has the authority to insist upon direct access to the Prime Minister should he feel such action necessary. He is occassionally subjected to political interference and pressure from the Minister to whom he is currently reporting and is normally able to outmanoeuvre and outwit them. His assistant and second in command, Jack Fraser, is both close friend and subordinate. Drawn by Romero TABBY “COBRA TRAP” P 197 “THE GIRL WITH THE BLACK BALLOON” Local London crook who does routine work for Mountjoy. Did not realise that the next job was to take out Modesty and Willie and when he finds out he is very nearly mortified in the real sense. Used by Modesty to move closer to catching Mountjoy and rescuing Tor Hallenberg. TAFF “SABRE TOOTH” P 193 Mercenary in Willie’s section of The Kuwait Liberation Army. When he makes fun of one of the other men for carrying Willie’s bag he is warned that it is one way of keeping one’s teeth in one’s head. TALL-LEG LADY “LAST DAY IN LIMBO” P 8 Name given to Modesty by Charlie Long Arrow, the sixty year old Shoshone Indian guide with Modesty and John Dall on their trip through the Idaho Primitive Area. TALL OWL IN THE TREE “LAST DAY IN LIMBO” P 8 Name of John Dall’s grandmother. TALO “SABRE TOOTH” P 216 Mercenary. Radio operator in The Kuwait Liberation Army. He is on duty on the night Modesty sends her message to Sir Gerald Tarrant. Knocked out by Modesty he comes round to find her and Willie fighting. Grabs a gun and threatens to kill Modesty. Rejects her attempt to bribe him and keeps her covered while Willie reports to Karz. TANGYE Professor “A TASTE FOR DEATH” P 27 In charge of the archaeological dig at the Roman city of Mus in Algeria, which has been sponsored by Sir Howard Presteign. The site has been taken over by Gabriel and Delicata in search of the fabulous treasure reputed to be buried there. He and his team have been cowed by physical abuse which has turned them into virtual zombies. Rescued by Modesty and Willie. Together with his wife and assistants the entire team is flown to safety by Skeet Lowry. T
