Uses his financial muscle to bring in the relevant authorities to clear up the defeated Hostel of Righteousness. Paranoid about being internationally ridiculed for his lack of taste. Employs Beauregard Browne to steal famous works of art which he keeps in a secret museum on his island, Dragon’s Claw. Also has Browne kidnap art authorities and bring them to the island to see the collection, after which they are killed. His latest victim is Luke Fletcher. Reluctant to kill such a renowned painter, he has employed Dr. Feng Hsi-shan to brainwash Fletcher and erase the visit from his memory. When Fletcher escapes and is rescued from the sea by Modesty, he ingratiates himself with her to make sure he will know if Fletcher recovers his memory and reveals the truth. When this does happen, Browne immediately kills Fletcher. When Modesty and Willie go looking for Browne, Solon lures them into a trap and takes them as captives to Dragon’s Claw, to boast about and show them his collection and then to kill them. It does not work out quite as he had planned. SOULTER “MODESTY BLAISE” P 190 One of Gabriel’s men on Kalithos. With Babur and Guiseppi he is guarding the diamonds stolen from Sheik Abu-Tahir. SOULTIER “SABRE TOOTH” P 32 French plastic surgeon engaged by Modesty to treat the facial scar Lucille Brouet received in the car accident that killed her parents. SPELLMAN, Dicky “MODESTY BLAISE” P 39 According to McWhirter could be Ivor Grant’s boss. A senior and recent appointment in Naval Intelligence. SPERRY, General “SABRE TOOTH” P 223 The military expert consulted by Sir Gerald Tarrant on the theoretical feasibility of Operation Sabre Tooth. Confirms to Tarrant that with present day mobility and fire power the operation could be achieved in twelve hours by a highly trained task force of battalion strength. His opinion fails to convince Tarrant’s Minister but is shared by the American, Major General Reeve. SPURLING, Mr. Manager employed by Willie to run his pub “The Treadmill”. Willie thinks his manager is much better at it than he is. “MODESTY BLAISE” P 67 Greets Modesty when she calls on Willie at “The Treadmill” about the job for Sir Gerald Tarrant. Has had a bad knee.
