Alexander “COBRA TRAP” P 129 “OLD ALEX” Eldest son of Viscount Sayle of Casterlaw, and older by four years than his brother Mark. He was Captain of a Halifax bomber that failed to return from a wartime mission and was offcially reported missing, believed killed. With his plane badly damaged it was presumed that, as Captain, he baled out after his crew had gone. He was never captured and never heard of again. At the time this happened he was engaged to Elaine McBeal who was pregnant. She later gave birth to a son. See also Mirot. SAYLE, Mark “COBRA TRAP” P 129 “OLD ALEX” Son of Viscount Sayle of Casterlaw and younger brother of Hon. Alexander Sayle by four years. Inherited his father’s title due to the reported death of his brother and occupies the family manor house in Kent. Married with children and grandchildren, he is renowned for his charitable work and well respected in the city and in the country. SCHEVILL “I, LUCIFER” P 216 Dolphin expert whose work has been studied by Dr. Royle. SCHULTZ Steel magnate and supermarket king. “LAST DAY IN LIMBO” P 67 One of the slaves in Limbo. With his wife he heads the Committee that loosely runs the internal affairs of the slaves. Supports Modesty and keeps the passive slaves out of the way during the final battle. “THE NIGHT OF MORNINGSTAR” P 101 Still keeps in touch with Dr. Kim Crozier and is one of the names used by him to force C.I.A. man Frank Dean to be reasonable. SCHULTZ, Mrs. “LAST DAY IN LIMBO” P 67 One of the slaves in Limbo. With her husband she heads the Committee that loosely runs the internal affairs of the slaves. Actively supports Modesty and helps her husband keep the passive slaves out of the way during the final battle. SCHÜTZ, Klaus “PIECES OF MODESTY” P 42 “THE GIGGLE-WRECKER” Mayor of West Berlin. According to Willie he has informal talks every morning at the Hilton Hotel with De Souta, the Special United Nations Represenative for U Thant. SARAGAM Combat master and teacher with a dojo in Bangkok. Both Modesty and Willie have studied under him. First mentioned in the 1973 novel “The Silver Mistress” he was the subject of the strip story “The Golden Frog” in 1978 and played an important role in “The Special Orders” twenty years later. “THE SILVER MISTRESS” P 187 One of his pupils was Mr. Sexton who spent a year under him in Bangkok in his youth. Sexton left when he felt there was no more he could learn. Modesty recognises his style during the brief exchange she has with Sexton in the cellar of Chateau Lancieux. “DEAD MAN’S HANDLE” P 15 Modesty spent six months at his dojo. In Willie’s opinion he is the best at purely manual combat. Willie also spent time at his dojo until he was thrown out after an altercation. It is with this in mind that Willie offers Modesty the kongo that he has made on the occasion that she first offers him a job. It allows her to “keep ‘er ‘ands nice if she gets in a rumble”. SARMIENTO “PIECES OF MODESTY” P 155 “SALAMANDER FOUR” One of the men named by Willie as being on the old Network files which are to be handed over to Sir Gerald Tarrant. A top executive in Salamander Four. “LAST DAY IN LIMBO” P 30 Referred to by Paxero as being a top man in Salamander Four who told him that Modesty had given them a bad time on two occasions. SARRAT “SABRE TOOTH” P 7 Mercenary. Section Commander in The Kuwait Liberation Army. He provides the sword bayonet for Vallmanya in his fight with the Twins.
