FRANK BELLAMY King Arthur took his Army to Sherwood Forest to fight the rebel King Lot. As Arthur was about to fight him, he was knocked from his saddle. The rebel King Lot urged his mount forward and rode full tilt at Arthur who kept quite still and did not flinch. The huge horse pounded towards him. From the saddle of his galloping horse King Lot thrust his lance at Arthur who stepped aside just in time. The lance bit deep into the earth. King Lot’s powerful charge carried him past King Arthur. At that moment Arthur’s horse came trotting forward. Arthur ran to seize the reins. He had to mount his horse before King Lot made another attack, but as he clutched at the reins the horse galloped off. Arthur had lost his chance. And then King Lot turned in the distance and began another attack. Arthur, full of courage, took the great lance from the earth to defend himself. 18
