137 Moving on to TV Century 21 in 1965, Ron began to draw and paint in strip form Gerry Anderson’s T.V. puppet creations, Stingray and Captain Scarlet , and, despite his self-confessed lack of enthusiasm for the project, he managed to convey not only excitement but a genuine sense of awe and wonder. Such was the scope of Ron's art that he could contribute to magazines with a very wide age range, two examples being Once Upon a Time and Look and Learn. Ron became a major contributor to both. For Once Upon a Time , a paper for very young readers, he showed himself adept at portraying fairy tale fantasy but it was for Look and Learn , the educational magazine for older children, that Ron did some of his very best work. Apart from his many fine story illustrations and full-colour FACING PAGE LEFT: Johnny Frog from Eagle comic 1964, which was another of the artist's personal favourites from the period. ABOVE: Unidentified drawing for a text story circa 1964. In both examples Ron's strong sense of tone and dramatic lighting provide an excellent foil to his storytelling strengths. OVERLEAF: A return to Roger's Rangers as Ron undertook work on a new series devoted to one of his favourite subjects in the pages of Look and Learn published in 1974.
