This is the unique original Gouache painting by Ralph Bruce.

London in the First World War. This is the original artwork for the long running Look and Learn series The Romance of the English Theatre part 13, originally published in issue 209 15th January 1966.

The poster on the omnibus advertises Chu Chin Chow by Oscar Ashe which opened in the West End in 1916 and ran for five years. It was part play, pantomime, musical and spectacle.

Despite the news from the war or possibly because of it this light entertainment was successful enough to run for 2,238 performances. The atmosphere of London at dusk is beautifully evoked by Ralph Bruce.
